🐧 Pudgy Penguins Lead the Way

• If we see a significant upward cycle or trend in 2025, I fully expect Pudgy Penguins—both PFPs and collectibles—to shine. Right now, they dominate the Web3 narrative by targeting the collectors of the future. Their strategic combination of community focus and forward-thinking technology sets them apart.

• The launch of Abstract mainnet could also give Pudgy a powerful boost, advancing consumer crypto in meaningful ways. This isn’t a far-fetched call; after all, Pudgy recently executed the largest airdrop in Web3 history in terms of claimable wallets, and their token has shown stability in the volatile crypto space. All signs point to them continuing to make waves.

🌆 RWA Platforms Consolidate and Advance

• The concept of tokenizing real-world assets (RWAs) sounds simple in theory, but the reality is more complex. While many platforms have attempted to tackle this space, few have found product-market fit, and some may run out of funding in 2025. Only a few leaders will remain standing.

• Part of the challenge has been the lack of “number go up” moments. Platforms tokenizing high-value assets like watches haven’t attracted enough degens with extra cash to invest in these luxury goods. Additionally, buyers of tokenized luxury assets demand assurance that their items are authentic and well-maintained. This is where vaulting and grading services come into play as indispensable tools. In the Web3 world, these services aren’t just an afterthought—they’re essential to building trust and driving adoption.

• On a personal note, my intention is to position SegMint as one of the leading RWA platforms. There’s work to do, but I believe the opportunity is there. I’m determined to seize it and hope that you join us.

🔮 Make or Break for Futureverse

• I’ve been a believer in Futureverse since 2021. While the project has had its ups and downs, it’s still around and building, which is more than many others can claim. However, 2025 is a critical year. Futureverse must step up to activate its community, deliver on its vision of an open, interoperable metaverse, and fully leverage its AI innovations.

• One of their biggest challenges is onboarding users to the Root Network, a task that has proven difficult even for experienced Web3 users. Personally, I continue to grind at the Third Kingdom game, though without meaningful updates or gameplay improvements, it’s been hard to stay enthusiastic. Regardless, game play improving updates are on their way and we’re expecting ROOT quest rewards to grow significantly, which could further boost engagement.

🕹️ Gaming Wins Bigly

• 2025 might be the year traditional gamers finally come around to blockchain gaming. For years, gamers have spent hundreds—if not thousands—of dollars on skins, characters, and in-game items that hold no real-world value. As a personal example, I’ve spent over $300 on skins in League of Legends and Marvel Snap, with no way to recover that money unless I sell my accounts (which, of course, violates the terms of service).

• When gamers realize that blockchain gaming offers tradability and true ownership of in-game assets, the shift will be undeniable. Web3, IP-related games like Vibes TCG, which has already hit it big by using Pudgy IP, and upcoming launches like Off the Grid, will pave the way for broader adoption. Meanwhile, platforms like Futureverse’s Readyverse has the chance to redefine gaming economics, bringing more value to players.

🪂 Airdrops and Liquidity Push Collections Higher

• Even after the PENGU token claim, the pipeline for Token Generation Events (TGEs) remains strong. Expect major drops from OpenSea, Abstract, Doodles, Azuki, and several Web3 games.

• With so much liquidity entering the space, I wouldn’t be surprised to see blue-chip NFT collections maintain their upward trajectory. The combination of airdrops, rewards, and increased market activity will likely drive significant gains across the ecosystem.

Final Thoughts

• The next year promises both challenges and opportunities in Web3. Leaders like Pudgy, innovators in RWA tokenization, and Web3 gaming pioneers are well-positioned to make a significant impact. While speculative narratives like airdrops will keep liquidity flowing, projects like Futureverse must deliver on promises to sustain long-term growth.

• As always, these are my opinions and predictions—but one thing is clear: the Web3 sea is vast, and the tides are rising. Let’s see who’s ready to ride the wave in 2025. 🌊

• This note is for my readers who may not have been actively engaging with xz.com and their NFT communities recently. Here’s what you need to know: The PENGU Token Claim and TGE are now live. This token, branded as a “Culture” coin rather than a MEME coin, has injected significant liquidity into the system. If you’ve previously used EVM wallets, made swaps via Phantom, or own a Cluster name, Pudgy Penguin, Lil Pudgy, or Rod, you may be eligible to claim. It may be the largest airdrop/claim to date in the history of Web3.

  

• Pudgy CEO Luca Netz is playing chess, not checkers—and he’s playing to win. If you’ve previously purchased Pudgy World collectibles, your time to claim will soon come with the introduction of Abstract mainnet. That’s right, those cute little plushies available at your local Walmart will also be eligible for a PENGU token claim. Stay tuned!

• Yes, this even includes the larger penguin toys, which secretly contain an NFC chip located in their foot. Collectors can use their iPhone or Android device to claim their tokens seamlessly. I own two of these and had no idea that NFC Chips were embedded.

The Next Anticipated Token Claim: OS

• One of the most anticipated drops that never materialized was the planned OpenSea Token. However, this past week, speculation surged around the Gemesis NFT collection being tied to an upcoming OpenSea token claim. The alleged alpha? Owning at least three Gemesis NFTs might be the key.

• The speculation around Gemesis NFT ownership mostly remains just that—speculation. However, internet sleuths uncovered that OpenSea recently created a Cayman Islands foundation, a move commonly associated with token TGEs. As a result, Gemesis NFT price volatility surged. While it’s still unclear if owning one will actually matter, I decided to pick up a few just in case.

New Futureverse Quest:

• If you own Futurverse-related assets but haven’t been keeping up, there’s a new Questmas quest you should check out to earn some free ROOT Tokens.

  Log into the FuturePass dashboard and head to Quest 16. Each day, the team posts a new clue with a keyword that you must enter into their form. Once you’ve collected all 12 keywords, you can submit them to complete the quest. You have until January 2nd to finish it up. It’s fun, easy, and there’s really no excuse to miss out on some free Questmas cash!

Captain Aaron McDonald keeps teasing slow-mo clips of OP3N, a highly anticipated FPS. Testing is progressing, and it sounds like there's a lot of marketing building up around it. Let’s hope the launch goes as smoothly and successfully as it did for Off The Grid.

• Off The Grid - I added an additional 10 hours to Off The Grid following my initial review, and I still really enjoy the title. There is an issue with cheaters abusing the game, but it's still quite fun to play. If you're into Warzone, PUBG, or Fortnite, I recommend giving it a try. Keep in mind, it's still in Beta, so expect some bugs.

New Game Shipped - My Review of “Off The Grid”

• TL;DR: Off The Grid is a promising Web3 battle royale game set in a cyberpunk world, featuring a mix of PvP and PvE with strong narrative elements and unique mechanics like customizable cybernetic upgrades. It impresses with its jetpack deployment and immersive graphics, but the beta version needs better onboarding for new players, tighter map sizes for small player counts, and more balanced combat. Despite these minor issues, the game shows great potential as it evolves.

My Review:

The Positives:

• The game's narrative-driven design is a refreshing twist on the battle royale format, combining fast-paced action with immersive storytelling. It has already started generating buzz for its potential integration of Web3 features, making it a standout in blockchain gaming. The rich mechanics, such as the cybernetic upgrades and extraction objectives, offer dynamic gameplay that feels layered and rewarding. The graphics and world-building are also impressive, setting the stage for a truly engaging experience.

• I also loved the jetpack mechanic for deployment. If you’re familiar with parachute drops in games like PUBG, you’ll find this to be a fun twist. The jetpack offers a sense of control and exploration right from the start. Figuring out the optimal way to use it was a fun challenge, and I can already see how experienced players will master its dynamics for strategic advantage.

Areas for Improvement:

While Off The Grid has a lot going for it, there are a few areas that could use refinement, though these may naturally improve as the beta progresses.

1. Onboarding and Tutorials:
   For new players, the game can be overwhelming. The battlefield is packed with loot boxes and objectives, but there’s no clear tutorial to help guide you through it all. A mandatory tutorial or onboarding process would greatly improve the new player experience, making it easier to get acquainted with the mechanics and objectives.

2. Map Size:
   The map feels too large for the current structure, leading to a lot of empty space and downtime between engagements. It’s reminiscent of Battlefield, but without the sense of progression that comes with larger-scale battles. This may change as additional game modes and objectives are introduced, but right now, the scale feels slightly mismatched with the player count.

3. Combat Balance:
   In my brief time playing, I noticed that players seem to take damage and die very quickly. The time-to-kill (TTK) feels too short, which can make engagements feel rushed and unforgiving. This could be balanced to provide a more rewarding back-and-forth in combat.

The Rise of the Trolls: How the Market Burned Its Biggest Collectors

• The trolls we see in Web3 today are not your typical outsiders—they’re people who were once deeply invested, both emotionally and financially, in the space. During the peak of 2021, many jumped into Web3 with high hopes. NFT projects like Bored Ape Yacht Club were selling out within minutes, and celebrities like Paris Hilton were launching their own collections. Brands, too, joined the frenzy: McDonald’s, for instance, launched its McRib NFT campaign, generating 85,000 retweets for collectible McRib-themed NFTs, while Louis Vuitton hosted a digital treasure hunt to celebrate its 200th anniversary with NFTs​

• But as the market cooled and the speculative bubble burst, many collectors felt burned. These individuals had poured money into projects without fully understanding their teams, structures, or long-term potential. When projects pivoted, faltered, or failed, these collectors felt betrayed. Instead of providing helpful, constructive feedback, they shifted to relentless criticism, attacking the very projects they once supported and spreading constant negativity across platforms like X (formerly Twitter), dragging these projects through the mud.

• Instead of helping the space grow, trolls have focused on past promises, discrediting projects that are still building, adapting, and evolving. Their bitterness over their financial losses has transformed them into roadblocks for progress.

Axie Infinity: A Story of Recovery and Resilience

• Take Axie Infinity, a pioneer in play-to-earn gaming that became a livelihood for many during its peak. In 2022, the Ronin Bridge hack resulted in a staggering $600 million loss, shaking the community’s trust. Rather than crumble, Axie Infinity rebuilt. The team compensated users, strengthened security, and introduced a new version of the game, showing how projects can overcome adversity when committed to their community. Trolls may have criticized the project for its vulnerabilities, but Axie Infinity’s resilience speaks louder than the negativity​.

Sorare: Real Utility Over Hype

• Another example of overcoming market dynamics is Sorare, the fantasy sports platform that uses NFTs as digital trading cards. While NFT speculation cooled, Sorare continued to expand by leaning into its core offering: fantasy football gameplay. By forming partnerships with major leagues like La Liga and diversifying into other sports like baseball, Sorare has shown that Web3 projects can succeed by providing real utility beyond speculation. Trolls might dismiss NFTs as fads, but Sorare proves that Web3 is more than just hype​.

Decentraland: From Speculation to Engagement

• Decentraland initially gained attention during the Web3 boom by selling virtual land, with prices skyrocketing during the speculative frenzy of 2021. However, as the market cooled, many questioned whether virtual real estate would hold long-term value. Rather than fading into irrelevance, Decentraland pivoted. The platform shifted its focus from speculative land sales to building more engaging, interactive experiences, such as virtual concerts, art galleries, and brand partnerships with major names like Adidas. This pivot toward community interaction and events has helped Decentraland remain a relevant force in the Web3 space.

The Third Kingdom (TTK): A New Example of Resilience

• For a more recent example, The Third Kingdom (TTK) by Futureverse demonstrates how even newer projects in Web3 are learning to adapt to challenges. TTK is a resource-harvesting Web3 game where players plant prysms on SurrealScapes to harvest energy, which can later be converted into resources and ROOT tokens. Upon launch, TTK faced numerous issues, and the community quickly criticized the project for its rocky start. But instead of letting the backlash define them, the TTK team took action.

• They responded with transparency, announcing a full reset and significant upgrades to the game, while rewarding early testers for their commitment. This ability to pivot and improve in the face of adversity shows that TTK—like other successful projects—understands the importance of adapting to community feedback and evolving to meet expectations​.

Moving Forward: Building Beyond Negativity

Trolls will always exist, but they don’t have to dictate the future of Web3. It’s ironic how some collectors immerse themselves in a project, aligning their entire social media persona with it, only to flip and publicly criticize it the moment things don’t go as planned. Others, who have already sold off their assets, keep stirring negativity, seemingly unable to move on. This behavior isn’t constructive; it’s self-sabotage.

The real strength of Web3 comes from those who believe in the long-term vision—builders and supporters who understand that real progress requires persistence, collaboration, and adaptability.

As Web3 continues to evolve, we must focus on pushing innovation forward and building collectively, rather than letting the loudest negative voices slow us down.

Letting the trolls win—especially those trying to devalue what they once supported—means stalling the hard-earned momentum. If we want Web3 to thrive, we need to move the conversation from empty criticism to constructive action, from finger-pointing to forward-thinking. The future of Web3 is in our hands, and together, you and I can build something far more resilient than anything trolls could tear down.

• It only took NFTs losing 90%+ of their value for me to feel justified in making the case that utility is essential for their survival. Back in 2021, during the height of the NFT craze when everything seemed like a guaranteed winner, I often felt like an outsider who didn’t fully connect with the pure art culture. Instead, I gravitated toward projects with potential utility—like Portals for metaverse/world-building, Futureverse for gaming+, and most importantly, tokens tied to real-world assets.

• While some art-focused NFTs will likely continue to do well, they need more than just aesthetics to thrive. Even Pudgy Penguins isn’t just art—it's intellectual property, a collectible, part of a gaming ecosystem, and so much more. Utility adds layers of value.

• Take, for example, Collector’s Crypt on Solana, which just sold out their mint of 150 graded Pokémon cards at 1 SOL each. I grabbed two, intrigued by the potential pull. There’s a Mario Pikachu card worth around $5,000 in market value hidden in the mix. Yes, it’s a bit of a gamble, but no matter what I pull, it’s backed by a real, physical asset. And grading alone costs $25–50 depending on the item.

• I encourage readers to explore platforms focused on tokenized physical collectibles, like Collector’s Crypt, Courtyard, Baxus, Cantinium, Blockbar, and others. Remember, the NFT is just the wrapper and delivery mechanism—the real value often lies in what it represents.

A Follow-Up on The Third Kingdom: Early Challenges and Promising Progress:

In my article last week, I shared some initial thoughts on The Third Kingdom (TTK), and after spending more time with the game, here's where I stand:

• TTK had a rocky start at launch. The game was riddled with bugs, which forced the team to switch to beta mode, entering a period of heavy maintenance. Now, users are bracing for an imminent full reset. To be honest, this wasn’t a surprise. Futureverse has faced similar issues with previously launched titles, and the lack of thorough Alpha testing with the community was a key factor here. The hope is that they’ll take these lessons into account for the upcoming Readyverse launch.

The Good News

• Despite the rough start, there’s a lot to be excited about. The game itself is visually stunning and surprisingly addictive. Now that players have had the chance to engage in testing, it's clear that the community enjoys the gameplay. What's been most inspiring, though, is how the development team responded to the issues.

• They took action by shifting to testing mode, planning a full relaunch, and rewarding players for their participation in testing. This level of responsiveness is encouraging, and I have to tip my hat to CEO Aaron McDonald for listening to the community, addressing the problems, and guiding the project back on track.

Background:

• I’ve been in this space long enough—my journey began with the Decentraland auction back in 2017—to recognize the cyclical nature of these digital worlds. Decentraland came with huge expectations but lacked the tools to properly empower landowners and builders. It was still in its infancy and didn’t gain any traction until Facebook rebranded as Meta. Yet here I am again, diving headfirst into the digital frontier, this time armed with a clearer vision and a deeper understanding of what truly matters.

• In 2021, I collected NFTs from Altered State Machine, which aimed to democratize AI by enabling users to use AI agents as players in games or future personal assistants. While the team released a few titles, the focus was more on testing game mechanics than finding a solid product-market fit, prompting me to wonder what they were truly testing. This leads to The Third Kingdom (TTK). My first impression was, "Here we go again, another metaverse"—just another resource-harvesting game. However, as I delved deeper, I uncovered its greater significance. Future iterations of TTK will include AI-enabled characters that harvest resources on my behalf, completing the vision.

• TTK is a Futureverse project, built on the ROOT Network, alongside well-known projects like Flufworld, PartyBears, and Altered State Machine, all under the Futureverse umbrella. Notably, Futureverse has formed strategic collaborations with industry giants such as Alibaba, Warner Bros. Music, FIFA, Reebok, and Tencent, further solidifying its position in the digital landscape. While TTK can certainly thrive on its own, the resources harvested within the game can be leveraged to bootstrap something far more ambitious—and that something is on the horizon.

About The Third Kingdom:

• The Third Kingdom allows players to develop their Origin Islands, manage resources, and construct production empires. It’s not just about collecting tokens; it’s about creating a sustainable virtual economy. The mechanics remind me of classic strategy games like Clash of Clans, but they introduce fresh concepts that encourage long-term thinking and collaboration. The key to maximizing your impact in the Readyverse lies in actively participating in TTK: owning SurrealScapes, planting Prysms, and harvesting resources.

What’s the Readyverse?

• The Readyverse is a cutting-edge platform that offers players a dynamic environment where they can embark on quests for both digital and physical rewards, enhancing engagement through the innovative capabilities of Readyverse Studios. Notably, Readyverse Studios holds an exclusive IP license from Warner Bros. to bring the Ready Player One franchise into the metaverse. This platform champions principles like asset interoperability, digital ownership, decentralization, and security. For fans of the franchise, diving into the Readyverse is like stepping into the OASIS—who wouldn’t want to own a piece of that?

• In the Readyverse, players might explore iconic locations, from battling Mecha-Godzilla on Planet Doom to wandering through the enchanting world of Harry Potter. The Readyverse guarantees true interoperability, fostering a communal space where players from around the globe can connect. Here, individuals can use AI-supported tools to collaboratively build and shape these immersive worlds. • My focus on TTK is a strategic move aimed at positioning myself for the future. By harvesting resources in TTK, I am not only enhancing my gameplay but also contributing to the development of the Readyverse. To truly engage with and build within Futureverse’s expansive universe, players need to be involved in TTK, making it an essential component for anyone serious about participating in this new digital frontier.

• The journey into this new realm is not without its risks. Many remain skeptical about the longevity of virtual worlds, and I understand that sentiment. However, those willing to embrace the unknown can reap extraordinary rewards. Spending over $40,000 on Prysms and SurrealScapes (land) may seem reckless to some, but I view it as a calculated move in a future where the boundaries between our physical and digital lives are increasingly blurred.

Building Community:

TTK assets were distributed to outside projects, including Pudgy Penguins, DeadFellaz, Cool Cats, Doodles, and more. This savvy approach to collaboration from the very beginning fosters a vibrant ecosystem where diverse communities can thrive together. As we build out Web3, can you imagine a world where everything is seamlessly connected? The Readyverse is paving the way for that future.

• My engagement with The Third Kingdom is more than just a financial venture; it’s a commitment to a vision where virtual realities enhance our everyday experiences. Staking is live.

• That part isn’t new, but they have since doubled the points earned for the original stakers, which will tie into their upcoming Token generation event. If you buy Portals NFTs, stake right away and start accumulating.

Serious Changes to the PFP

• The Portals Membership cards are being transformed into unique PFPs in collaboration with artist @SCUMSOL. Help with generating resources is on its way!

  

Major Sales:

• This past week, a Vision, their top-tier rarity, sold for around $40,000. I can’t recall the last time I saw something like this—it’s clear we have a believer. By the way, 300 SOL looks like a steal compared to current market prices.

• During the same period, the floor price for the least rare Membership card surged from around 7 SOL to over 12 SOL.

I was right about Cambria

• Cambria is a fantasy, RPG that I wrote about week’s ago following a successful playtest. Just yesterday, their free mint was a wild success for the lucky few who got one. 1,500 NFTs that now have a floor price of over 0.3 ETH as of writing this.

What does this mean for us?

• From what I can tell, it’s the first time in a while that a free mint NFT has surged like this. In fact, the mint process felt reminiscent of peak 2021— a bit clunky, and I was tempted to increase my gas fees to improve my chances. I should have, as I still missed out. The good news, though, is that we're seeing positive price action again, and I’m hopeful this momentum bodes well for other current and upcoming collections.

• Here’s what else I’m excited about:

  • RWAs are gaining traction from traditional PFP collections.

    • Pudgy Penguins now have their own Collectible Card Game (CCG).

    • Doodles have introduced Rubik’s cubes, some featuring real diamonds.

    • It's too late to mint, but Delorean Labs offered a free NFT mint. This is definitely a project worth following as the Web2 brand explores its entry into Web3.
